Spiritual Messages
~ Yvonne Swan, Sinixt Arrow Lakes Nation ~
My family is a precious link to interesting activities and discussions and I feel so blessed to have their love and friendship. Some of them know that spiritual messages are of great interest to me and I really like it when they share this kind of information. It’s like they sense my hunger and are giving me spiritual food to make me strong in this walk of life.
It is my belief that we are headed toward total spiritual awareness and I think it is wonderful. If that is correct, then I want to do whatever I can to enhance it—share what good things
I know--rather than hold back or wonder when this great event will occur.
My hunger for spiritual food is not merely to elevate my own spirit, but, it is to help raise the consciousness of my sisters and brothers on Mother Earth so we, and our Life Giver, will all be happy.
On December 21, 2011 my niece, Lori, forwarded the following link:

and I read “2012 According to Today’s Maya” by Daniel Pinchbeck. Some of what he’d written reminded me of spiritual information I’ve received in my life. For instance, when he said “…the earth will soon undergo a magnetic pole shift and mass crustal displacement, while humanity shifts into a new form of consciousness. At some point, there will be a 30-hour period of blackness –not just an eclipse of the sun, but total blindness –in which people are advised to sit still and wait. This will take place somewhere between now and 2017, with land masses shifting above and below the equator…” reminded me of a dream that I had had some 20-plus years ago.
In the dream I was in southern California in a huge building, like an airplane hangar that had been turned into a movie studio. I walked around watching people prepare for a film making--technicians, actors, camera crews—moving about their business. I walked up some bleachers and said hello to a man who was giving voice lessons to a young actor who was going to play him in the film. Then I went back down the steps and when I got near the front entrance, an inner voice said, “Go outside, now.” Without hesitation, I walked outside and several feet away from the building. The voice was calming as it let me know something was about to happen and I stood still.
Suddenly the earth moved beneath my feet. It sort of heaved and rolled and flopped like a gigantic ocean wave. As this was happening, everything around me, including the large movie studio, was affected yet nothing seemed to be really damaged. When it was over and the earth settled down I went back in to check on everyone. People were moving around brushing themselves off and wide-eyed and talking excitedly. One guy walked up to another and they began chatting. “Wow! Where were you? ! Did you feel that? !” he asked and the other guy said, “Yeah-h!” Then he pointed to an open door nearby and said, “I was in there!” And they both laughed. I looked to where he had pointed and smiled when I realized it was a restroom. I walked away and let them laugh some more as he continued telling how the shaking of the building caused him to fall into the wall by the commode. It all seemed so humanly credible.
To translate my dreams I’ve been told to, first of all, notice what kind of feelings the dream had caused. Immediately upon awakening from this particular dream I noted that I had not panicked and neither had anyone else. I also noted that I had not fallen down. There was nothing chaotic about the incident; overall, it was a feeling of acceptance. It occurs to me now that remaining calm as I did in this dream coincides with such advisement mentioned in Pinchbeck’s article. What isn’t advised in my dream or in the article is to listen to your spirit. To do that in my culture is inborn. It is, no doubt, that way in everyone’s way of life. Perhaps, it is far back in our memories, which means it is not a total loss. All we need to do is reach back and pull this knowledge forward to help us in everyday life. We need not fear the unknown and we will not fear the unknown, or anything else for that matter, if we exude love. I had a lot of fear in my life between the ages six to thirty-one and I overcame it once I managed to teach myself how to meditate. I took ten minutes a day for a while to lay down and empty my mind. Once I managed to do that, I kept thinking the words, “I love you” and all the while thinking of the Life Giver, the spiritual mystery Creator who knows all things. I was amazed at the results when I fasted from food and sort of meditated on my feet, saying those three little words constantly. The first day of the five-day fast was the greatest challenge. It took a lot of will power. After that, it got easier and it was very educational. One night, in a dream, a humongous platter of food was brought before me and just looking at it all made me completely full. It was wonderful.
Now, when I think of preparing for anything special, I go back to those times that I fasted and try to get the same calm feeling and the same openness of heart and soul. I have been thinking a lot about this because of what a few of my friends and I have been discussing. It is also mentioned in Pinchbeck’s article when he says “…At some point, there will be a 30-hour period of blackness…”
A brother/friend on my Reservation told me he had heard “There will be thirty-three (33) hours of darkness.” Then he added, “In that time, we are to remain still and the ancestors will come and tell us how to live on earth.” When he told me this I flashed on a lot of people I know and wondered how they would react. I sincerely hoped none of them would panic. Some of them, with addictions or other dependencies might overreact at the mere thought of it. With that in mind, I make it my responsibility to talk about meaningful things every chance I get, mainly about prayer and the power thereof. I give examples of prayers being answered, sometimes instantly and it seems to ease their minds, which is good. I didn’t intrude on my brother/friend and ask where he got his information. That will come if and when the time is needed. With such friends, I simply believe them because we have the same interests in life and the same objectives. What he had said reminded me of something a sister/friend on my Reservation had told me previously.
She said when she was a young girl she always talked with the elders and she does to this day. One thing that stuck in her mind was what a very old lady told her before she left this world and continued on her journey. The old woman described a great happening on earth, something similar to the predicted span of darkness mentioned earlier. I cannot remember the details except my sister/friend said the old lady told her it was going to happen again and it will happen in her lifetime. She is now sixty-six and I am sixty-eight, if anyone is still interested in figuring the time. She knows how she is going to prepare for it. The fact that she described a long arbor-like structure covered with tarp suggested to me that the wind would probably be calm and there may not be much precipitation, if any at all. I relayed an inquiry to her from another sister/friend of a younger generation. She told me to ask if she had any idea of ‘when’ this would be happening and my older friend answered simply and much like the old-timers on our Reservation, “Tell her to watch the animals.”
It is a long story that few of my people know as to how our ancestors gave us pointers to help us understand things in life. One clue is to observe things that come in twos and try to understand the deeper meaning behind that. In this instance, I will say there are two ways to look at things—our Indian way and the white way. Sometimes I swear they are the opposite. For example, how we regard animals. We were taught that since the beginning of Creation, animals were put here first. They were put here to help us. They are a sacred gift to us and we respect that gift. The white man (and I can think of one prosecutor in particular) thinks we humans are superior to animals. Anyone with intellect should know that animals are very smart. That is why the Creator gave them the divine privilege of being our teachers here on earth.
Therefore, when my sister/friend said, “watch the animals” she did not mean go to the zoo and she certainly was not talking about scrutinizing the pampered cat sprawled on the couch or the cow chewing its cud by the barn. She meant wherever you are, especially if you are in the country like we are, make note of what the animals, tiny and large are doing; what are they not customarily doing? How are they living? Do they look healthy, strong, or weak? Are they even around?
Animals know according to natural law what the weather conditions will be like, but many of us can’t tell a rain cloud from mist above a river. We were forced by man-made law to look down with our noses in books. Sometimes we forget that our ancestors watched the weather. Every day my dad would try to figure what sort of day we were going to have before he decided what he was going to do. And he always did something constructive. If he was here today he would shake his head in disbelief at all the destructive things being done to the land, the forests, the water, and the animals.
Since my elders are leaving this planet at a rapid rate, I really look forward to learning from others. Perhaps you have received some meaningful spiritual messages to share--for the good of our future.
