~ Leslie Oakie
I have three Tunwins (aunts)that
I walked with for many years
Never did I think they would leave
me so soon. As the days went by, I
had so many tears
I wondered if I was cursed, if I was bad, that you took them away
I thought I would never see them again, and then they came to my dreams at night and during the day.
Because I walked behind them for over fifty years, it was so hard to let them go, but it was the only way
Somehow, in my dreams, I could only hear them talk to me
And they were so young and happy, they were with my Uncis and Lalas, and I began to see
I saw how much they did on earth for the people and me, how they finished their purpose here
I saw how much they were loved up above and down below, and how they seemed more near
I was lucky to see them grow to be Unci’s and have so much knowledge to share
How they learned to heal and love so many, and no matter what happened, they always did care
They made me love, and they showed me how to sing and dance and, most importantly, to pray
I couldn’t be so selfish wanting them back, I had to let them go so I could see another day
All the things they taught me, I now have to do, what a big task they had
I sat and listened to them talk and laugh as they did stuff for ones who needed them, even if they were sad
I saw how strong they were and how everything they said came true
When they say things will be ok if I do what they did, I wouldn’t ever be blue
I looked at the sky and the stars and saw so many gone, and how I wanted to be up there to
I tried to be down and give up, I thought, but what am I going to do, what are we going to do?
And every time they say, " Oh, Leslie, you're going to be ok, don’t worry, and pray
We hear you, and we are beside you more than you know if you need me, just say my name
As I started my journey without them, I walked a little more like them, and when I called, they came
I thank them for coming to me so I wouldn’t feel alone
I told them to guide me on that red road, so when my time comes, I wouldn’t be alone
My Tunwins were like my mothers, and though I won’t have anyone like them, I remember I am them today
So, I carry them on in a good way to honor them, treasure their memory, and remember all they had to say
My Tunwins Maggie, Alvina, Gloria Toksa Ake Waunglakinte
Na Wopila Tanka na Pilamaye!
PS: Creator, you are lucky to have them home. They fulfilled their purpose and gave us a purpose to live Ohan Miglustan Nica Ole Win Meye!
