A Mother’s Quiet Voice

~ Mel Gotwalt

Oh, my dear daughter, day after day I

hold hope you are safe. I beat myself

down, wondering how I failed to teach

you to not become prey. Was my

outlook too bright? How was I not

focused towards the dark shadows

moving in the distance?

I taught you to be strong but also to

be kind. Perhaps the teaching on

kindness was too strong. I hold great

sorrow as I suspect your compassion has cost you dearly. I so wanted to raise you with a kind and gentle heart. How did your predator not see the beauty that you hold so fully within you.

I wonder, what did his mother teach him? How does one grow up to be able to crush a fresh and fragment flower with such disregard. I wonder, do the mothers know what their child has done? Can we find better ways to share so no more dark intentions take action against our daughters?

Oh, my dear daughter. I hope you have found a safe hidden spot. My heart sends love to you and rises to the Creator to hold you ever in safety. Let the wind carry my voice reminding you that you are strong, that you are loved, and that this home remains ever open and secure for you.
