I am Ndeh/Apache, Diné/Navajo,
Mexicana/Mexican and American.
I use the pronouns zhe and zher
proudly. I am indigenous in no way
no government can count or contain. I am two- spirit, whole in my sacred duality.
In me, masculine and feminine dance as one. I carry the fire of my ancestors in every step I take. Every breath I draw is their victory over erasure. Every word I speak is their defiance echoing through time. I am their wildest hope made flesh- unbroken, unashamed, and undeniably here.
A part of my personal culture that is important to me is being of mixed identity. I'm not just Native American. I'm not just Mexican. I'm not just American. I'm all of these things and more, and so are you. Labels don't have to be part of your identity. You can create your identity. You can create your community.
You are beautiful. Embrace it. I have a message I would like to share with you. To all indigenous people, you are beautiful. To all the Two-Spirit people, you are beautiful. To anyone who has entered this exhibit, you are beautiful.
I have a lesson that I would like to share. Feel strong and find community that believes in you. As a person of two-spirit identity, there will be ups and downs. But our ancestors will always be there. They're always cheering you on. You're never alone.
